What does it take to gain someone's trust? Often the people I meet find trust and setting appropriate boundaries to among the hardest things to do. The horses in my herd have all their own unique approach. Some of them are naturally trusting and open while others are more reserved, so it can take time to gain their trust. Some are very clear with respect to their boundaries and others are not. Some have lived hard lives before coming to us, while others have been loved and safe since being a foal. I learn a lot from all of them.
It takes considerable courage to show trust in another being after experiences of separation, grief, loss and other trauma but when such trust has developed, it can open up possibilities for growth and living a fuller life for both horses and humans alike.
